Advanced Professional Development Program for English Teachers in China

For the second year in a row, Texas A&M hosted a group of high school English teachers from Hangzhou, China for the opportunity to participate in a professional development and cultural exchange program hosted by the department of Teaching, Learning, and Culture (TLAC) in the former College of Education and Human Development (now School), in collaboration with the Hangzhou Education Bureau in China.

With the success of the inaugural program in 2012, this year 24 teachers were selected.

“For their visit this year, we combined some topics in theory and practice but also decided to have the teachers visit a high school in Houston, because it is more comparable in school context to those they have been teaching in China,” said Li. “It is important for them to gain a contextual understanding as well.”

Texas A&M  hosted 19 high school English teachers from Hangzhou, China, as they participated in a professional development program organized by the former College of Education and Human Development (now School). This training platform was designed to develop Zhejiang Province teachers’ educational practices while promoting globalization efforts of Texas A&M and SEHD.

“This program was a great opportunity to increase the College’s visibility and to showcase our faculty’s expertise in the field of English language education,” said Dr. Yeping Li, Director of the International Education Research and Development Group.
